I followed my horses out of my hometown they were illegally evicted from, so scared to face the days ahead of me. And during the first few weeks of separation from them, my nightmares started all over again. I knew already, that it was the strength of one horse that held me together. As I grew dependent on him for those feelings of safety and comfort, he was ripped away from me, leaving me sicker then I thought possible. All of the repairs he had done to my heart diminished as I felt myself slipping further and further into that hopelessness that nearly killed me. I almost gave up. Without him, I did not know how to go on living. He was that final piece that made my life whole.
But the kindness of two strangers saved my life. Their answer to a letter in their door, would change my life forever, and open doors to opportunities I never had before. They gave us a place to be together; a place to start over. They gave us peace away from everything that had kept us apart. They gave me a chance to live my dream. They gave me freedom and they gave me my life with my horses back to me. And once reunited with my horses again, in a new home, with a new set of circumstances, together they gave me Hope.
Rhapsody's Way may not ever be anything to anyone else. But to us, it is everything. It's a sanctuary for horses. It is a place where no work is demanded from its residents. It is safety from neglect, abandonment, abuse and from slaughter. It is a privately owned, self funded home for horses who are no longer wanted, affordable, useful or sound. It's a safe option for local horse owners who, for whatever reason, cannot keep their horse but are afraid of Craigslist or the local auction. Rhapsody's Way is a place where once upon a time, dreams were planted and suddenly grew into reality with a little help from the horses who reside here. Each horse, in it's own way, serves Justice for one inspirational horse whose life was tragically stolen away from her. We watch as new horses come, and we see them adjust and flourish here with us. And each of those horses, in their own special way, touches our lives and proves to us all over again, that if nothing else in this world looks promising, as long as we have Rhapsody's Way, we will always be Finding Hope In Horses.
The Perfect horse isn't necessarily stunningly beautiful.
In fact, he's probably gotten a few scars and dings from life.
He's probably been hurt, but lived through it; been scared but
overcome it and ready to teach his rider to do the same.
The perfect horse is not just arena-ridden.
He will let you feel what its like to gallop into the ocean waves,
chase a neighbor's cows or play tag on horseback.
The Perfect Horse will buck you off when you deserve it,
But wait patiently for you to get back on.
The perfect horse has problems. He will teach you to deal with them.
The perfect horse knows that you can't be a perfect horseman if everything goes your way.
The perfect horse will challenge you, but only as much as you are ready to handle.
He will teach you that you still have more to learn.
The Perfect Horse will forgive you when you make mistakes,
and expects you to do the same.
He will try to ignore the tack that doesn't fit right, the confusing signals,
and will do his best to please. He will teach you to work, but it will be worth it.
The Perfect Horse may not be the prettiest or the fastest, but he has the most heart.
